Greetings!

Congratulations to the following seniors who kick off our college acceptances for the Class of ‘25:

-         Malia Perera to Wingate University with 108K in merit scholarships.

-         Rayna Silberman to UNC Greensboro

THANK YOU to all who contributed to the Second Lunch program.  When combined with the Middle Grades Wednesday meal delivery, our school provided more than 100 meals to those in need last week.

BEHIND THE SCENES:

Thank you to Logan for orchestrating picture day without a hitch.

We are in school-wide high gear for our First Semester “big event” - Academic Fair on Friday, November 22!  From my porch office I can hear the sounds of MAPP students rehearsing their entertainment and I am surrounded by Middle and Upper School students putting finishing touches on their papers.

REMIND:

We have early release this Friday (November 15).

The faculty will meet to prepare for Academic Fair and other end-of-semester events.

Friday, November 15 - Early Release dismissal schedule:

-         US Purple 11:30

-         MAPP 11:45

-         Middle 12:00

-         US Gold 12:15

ALL UPPER SCHOOL (and some Middle Graders):

- If you have not already acquired a Tri-fold board for Academic Fair, please do so.

- We recommend the standard 48”X 36” board (which is 24” X 36” folded).

- For Upper School, these need to be completed by Wednesday, Nov. 20.

ANNOUNCE:

Plans for our re-imagined annual Academic Fair are coming together.  This is a K-12, parent-required, occasion!

This important event allows Middle Grades and Upper Schools students to showcase the research they have been conducting since September, and MAPP students to entertain and share the end product of a project they began way back last March!

This event takes place at the Marriott Convention Center in downtown Durham, located at 201 Foster St. (There are no on-campus activities that day.)

US Students need to arrive at 8am sharp and should plan to stay the whole morning, until about noon.

MAPP and MG students should arrive with their parents (see below for schedule):

US parents should arrive at 8:00, 8:45, or 9:30 am* depending on when your student presents and your own interests.  *Student presentation times as well as a preview and schedule of topics will be available next Sunday, 11/17

Middle Grades students and parents at 9:30

MAPP students and parents should arrive at 10:15

All parents are invited to attend the whole morning (8am-12pm) if you desire, but definitely at least one parent per household should plan to celebrate our students’ hard work for about 1.5-2 hours, overlapping with your individual child’s participation in the program.

The program includes the following:

8:00-9:35 - Conference-style Slides presentations (Upper School) in breakout rooms (think TED-Talks)

9:45-11:00 - Poster presentations in the Grand Ballroom (Upper and Middle Grades), including a kid-friendly activity for our MAPP students.

11:00 - MAPP entertainment and Wrap Up

11:20 Snacks and Socializing

I hope you have a great week!

Best,

Thelma
