Weekly Update for 11/03/2024
Sunday, November 03, 2024
Greetings!
I hope you enjoy the extra hour in the day today!
Thanks to all who turned out for the Fall Social last Friday. I know we all appreciate the vision of Amy Shields, Bev and Rachel in bringing it together. Huge contributions of time, creativity and effort were made by many in our gesture to respond to parent requests for more social time. More to come!
BEHIND THE SCENES:
Behind the scenes last week was very full, both in terms of PLANNED and UNPLANNED events. In addition to the Fall Social preparation our PLANS included producing Mid-Semester reports, assisting with November 1 college applications and running a “reverse” safety drill. The UNPLANNED included a “real” opportunity to use the “reverse” drill on Wednesday afternoon.
In addition to our monthly fire drills (from inside to outside) we routinely run other safety practices, including weather safety and “reverse” drills (outside to inside). Last week I had taken time in each of my four weekly Morning Meetings (MAPP, Middle, Purple and Gold) to talk with students about uses and protocols for the Reverse Drill and to let them know that we would soon run a practice. We ran the practice on Tuesday at lunchtime, and then followed the routine we had established - beautifully - when a nearby car accident, at the peak of Wednesday dismissal-time, made it prudent for us to move indoors. We were informed by officers that a driver involved in the accident had fled the scene. Huge kudos to Team Camelot who helped to finish our dismissal smoothly and then led our afterschool activities indoors, without missing a beat.
