Greetings!

Hats off to Jill Pitino for the “work of art” that is the Family Conference Schedule!  She is a master-mind of being responsive to a myriad of variables.  To that end, please be sure you are clear on the day, time and Zoom link for your conference so that we can execute the plan well!

Additional thanks to Jill and to Logan Seay for coordinating the PSAT testing for our 10th and 11th graders.  Well done!

Kudos to Charlotte Frysinger for her orchestration of the Upper School Job Shadows happening this week.  We are deeply appreciative of the parent response to this request to get our high school students out into the professional world.

BEHIND THE SCENES:

We are at an exciting point in the year!  All of the time and attention spent creating “unique paths” for our students is gaining traction and this week we add the important information exchange of Family Conferences to the mix!  We are looking forward to this opportunity.

REMIND:

Monday- Friday - October 7-11

-         Upper School closed for Family Conferences

-         Student Job Shadow Opportunities offered

Wednesday-Friday - October 9-11

-         MAPP and Middle Grades closed for Family Conferences

Club and Winter Sport info has gone home via email from Wendy last week.

-         Clubs start the week of October 14

-         Winter Sports start the week of November 4.  Winter Sport sign up will go home this week.

Our Family Conference time is a reflection of our core value of “Parents as Team Members.”  All of our programming goes on pause so we may gather as a teaching team to meet with each family. Each conference opens with a request for your feedback and agenda times so please reflect on how best to maximize this experience by coming prepared.

A reminder, please do not come to your Zoom meeting from a moving vehicle or from a location with distractions/interruptions.

Please look at your student’s course syllabi that were provided to you for Parent Night in advance of your conference to familiarize yourself with class expectations.

UPPER SCHOOL students have no classes this week but they have many things to keep them busy.  In addition to ongoing Academic Fair work, they have homework in other classes.  Many are signed up for a Job Shadow experience.  All are encouraged to go on a college tour - even of a familiar local school - to build their savvy as they “shop” for the right fit in their post- high school journey.

Call for ENTREPRENEURS!

We have a small Upper School Entrepreneurship group that meets on Monday afternoons (1-3 PM) seeking guest speakers - via Zoom or in person.  Students have expressed interest in drop-shipping, investing and marketing - although they are eager to learn from the experience of elders in any/all aspects of entrepreneurship.  THIS IS A PARENT SERVICE OPPORTUNITY - please send me an email if you can participate!

Finally, in response to numerous requests for opportunities for parents to meet and socialize, we are planning a Fall Social on Friday, November 1 from 3:15- 5 PM.  Please note that this is a weather-dependent event.  More info and details to follow - for now, please add it to your calendar!

(We are also building in more parent social time at the November Academic Fair event!)

I hope you have a great week and a productive Family Conference.

Best,

Thelma
