Greetings!

Congratulations to our Soccer Knights for the strong start to their season with a tied game (4-4) versus Fletcher Academy!

Many thanks to Thomas and Katie for planning a remarkable set of Upper School team building activities at the farm. Kudos to Amy C for doing the same with service activity planning on campus and in the community. Here is what we accomplished in recognition of Patriot Day Service:

-Made 187 sandwiches for the homeless

-Packaged 6200 diapers to cover 124 babies for a month

-Washed and delivered 10 dozen farm eggs to new moms at Welcome Baby,

-Wrote 53 notes to chronically ill hospitalized kids

-Built “almost” 2 planter boxes for the Camelot perimeter

Meanwhile, Michelle planned and executed the first Wonder Day for Middle Grades with a well-enjoyed trip to the North Carolina Museum of Art.

BEHIND THE SCENES:

All of these special events - both planned and unplanned (e.g. deluge of a “rain day” on Friday) have been navigated with noticeably great attitudes by faculty and students.  We have much gratitude for our “Camelot Family.”

I am especially proud and inspired by the faculty desire to reimagine “Parent Night.”  It takes extra energy and courage to think outside the box and strive to achieve new goals.  The Team is “walking the walk” as they put together plans to showcase our work with your students in a newly envisioned way.  In order to accommodate students and parents all on campus at the same time while executing these plans in a meaningful and enjoyable manner, the MAPP and Middle Grades activities are weather dependent and we have created a Plan B! (See below for details.)

REMIND:

Please respond, IF APPLICABLE, to the email sent by Jill on Friday regarding Family Conferences in October - response due by end of day Monday.

Deadline to sign up for the Spain trip with the best rate is Sept 26.

Job Shadows - Parent Assistance Needed!

Camelot is looking for job shadow opportunities for our Upper School students during the week of Family Conferences (Oct. 7-11, 2024). It might be for a couple of hours, several days, or anything in between. If you are able to offer such an experience to our students, please complete this Google form to provide more information. (An important note: Hosting a job shadow counts towards Parent Service hours!)

Parent Night Event - Friday, September 20

Parent Night (and its accompanying written information) is presented every year so that parents can learn about their students’ classes and meet teachers. Your attendance and review of the information provided will give you an understanding of class-level routines and expectations so that when you meet for Family conferences next month the focus can be about info SPECIFIC TO YOUR STUDENT.   The in-person format we are trying this year has the additional benefit of offering parents the opportunity to meet each other, which has been requested by many.

PARKING - will be on neighborhood streets.   Please allow time to park and walk and be careful to not block the driveways of our neighbors.

Each division has an individualized approach to showing you the magic of what happens each day.  Parents and guardians should plan to attend the following times based on your student’s division.

NOTE RAIN DATE INFO! (In the event that MAPP and Middle Grades activities are moved to the rain date, parents will receive the written class information that the teachers have prepared via email on Friday.)  We will announce a weather decision by 2 PM Thursday.

MAPP parents - 3:00-3:45

Weather dependent - rain date is Monday, Oct. 7, 3-3:45pm

MAPP students can stay for special no-cost outdoor activities run by our Specials teachers during the event.

If two parents are in attendance, please rotate one parent inside and one outside to maximize classroom space.

Middle Grades parents - 4:00-4:45

Weather dependent - rain date is Monday, Oct. 7, 4-4:45pm

Students can go home at dismissal or stay to attend no-cost outdoor activities run by our Specials teachers during the event.

If two parents are in attendance, please rotate one parent inside and one outside to maximize classroom space.

Upper School parents - 5:00-5:45

Rain or shine

Only parents should attend (unless students have an assignment or a sibling in a younger division)

Email will be sent on Thursday with course syllabi - please review prior to sending Retreat Feedback or attending October conferences.

Parents of International Students - 5:30pm Q&A session with Mandarin translation; join the rest of the program 5-5:30

Next Sunday my update will include a link to the Parent Retreat Feedback Form.  We appreciate your thoughts and input as we prepare for the important work of Faculty Retreat.
